So much for my "No More Biaxin For Me" post on May 30. I just hung up the phone with the receptionist at my doctor's office, who returned the call I made first thing this morning after being awake half the night blowing my nose and sneezing. A ten-day script is on its way to CVS, so I will take my last pill (at least for now) the very day our moving van gets here.
I am, of course, disappointed to be sick again so soon after surgery. It has only been one month, and since I was recovering for the first week to two weeks post-op, I have really only enjoyed full health for about two weeks.
This is actually a pretty typical course for me: ramping up of an infection x 1 week, beginning of antibiotics x 10 days to 2 weeks, 2-3 weeks of relative or full health, then back to the signs of another infection ramping up. This time, hopefully, will be different. My sinuses should still be in good condition since the diseased tissue was removed and the bone structure altered to allow for greater drainage. Hopefully, the new environment will have as positive an effect as we hope, and I will kick this one for good. So, as disappointing as it is to be battling a new infection, this flare-up serves as reaffirmation that we are on the right track with this move. We have to give something new a try.
And so we are off. In ten days. Just after I take my last Biaxin.
